A two week stretch of Aurora police calls includes a hit and skip crash, a missing person alert and a stray dog reunited with its owner

Aurora police responded to a wide range of calls between June 30 and July 13, according to the department's incident summary. Reports ranged from traffic arrests and fraud complaints to a death investigation and several trips to the quarry off Treat Road. Traffic Stops and Arrests Officers made several arrests during traffic stops over the two week period. A stop on West Pioneer Trail on June 30 ended with an arrest for driving under suspension. A second stop that same day on North Aurora Road led to another arrest, also for driving under suspension after the registered owner could not be confirmed as the driver. A traffic stop on South Chillicothe Road on July 3 resulted in two arrests. One driver was taken into custody for driving under suspension, and a passenger was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant. A wanted man was picked up July 9 after a LEADS hit confirmation led officers to meet Stow police near Silver Springs Soccer Field. He was returned to Aurora and the warrant was cleared. A hit and skip crash on North Bissell Road on July 10 led to an arrest. A caller followed the fleeing vehicle until officers located the driver, who was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while impaired. A reckless driving complaint passed along from Solon and Twinsburg on July 11 ended with a traffic stop on South Chili Road. The driver was evaluated by a squad before the vehicle was towed. Theft, Fraud and Scams A hotel guest on East Garfield Road reported a fraudulent credit card transaction on June 30. A resident on Nautilus Trail reported an extortion scam on July 6. Callers claiming to be South Dakota police told the family a relative was in trouble. The family had already contacted their bank by the time officers responded. A theft report was filed at a business on Barrington Town Square Drive on July 3. On July 7, a caller reported the unauthorized use of a vehicle at a dealership on West Garfield Road. Quarry Trespassing Continues The quarry off Treat Road drew repeated police attention. On July 1, officers responded after a caller reported several people walking toward the quarry. Parents were contacted and advised of the next steps. A similar call came in July 2 after a caller reported a group parked nearby who walked into the woods toward the quarry. Officers gathered information from several people before releasing them. On July 8, a man was arrested for criminal trespass after being found at the quarry. Officers responded again July 13 after a caller reported people swimming there. Three people were found near the old railroad tracks and given a ride to their vehicle after guardians were contacted. Mental Health and Welfare Checks Officers and a rescue squad responded to a home on Shady Grove on July 5 for a mental health call involving a family member. On July 6, officers located a woman near Liberty who had walked away from home. She was found safe and voluntarily taken for an evaluation. A caller on July 9 reached out to officers on behalf of a person expressing thoughts of self harm. Officers located her safely at home, and her parents said they would take her for an evaluation. Early on July 10, officers responded to a business complex on Barrington Town Square Drive after a woman was found injured on the pavement. She was disoriented and transported for medical evaluation. Death Investigation Firefighters and police responded to a home on California Street on July 5 after a relative could not reach the resident inside. Crews gained entry through a window, and a man was found dead in the home. Missing Person Alert Aurora police were notified July 8 of a missing man from Maple Heights who may be familiar with the area. He was entered into the regional missing persons system, and a special watch was placed for two weeks. Domestic and Other Disputes A woman reported being assaulted by a manager at a hotel on North Aurora Road on July 1. An employee dispute at a business on Aurora Industrial Parkway on July 2 ended when one worker left the property in a vehicle. A man was arrested for aggravated menacing on July 6 after threatening a store clerk by phone near North Aurora Road. A domestic dispute on Colony Drive on July 9 involved a woman who locked herself and her children in a bedroom. The caller told officers she had been pushed. The man left voluntarily before officers could speak with him further. A resident on Sherwood Drive reported telephone harassment on July 13. Animal Complaints A stray dog found on East Boulevard on July 11 was identified through a microchip and reunited with its owner after the chip led officers to a relative in another state. A stray dog found on Orchard Avenue on July 13 was turned over to animal control after officers were unable to locate a chip. The owner later called police looking for the dog. Other Calls A caller on Fairington Oval reported June 30 that someone with a flashlight had been watching a covered porch overnight, an incident captured on a doorbell
