Aurora Police Department Announces Civil Service Examination for New Officers

AURORA, Ohio – The City of Aurora is officially looking to grow its police force, announcing a new Civil Service Examination to establish an eligibility list for entry-level Police Officer III positions. This recruitment drive opens the door for individuals looking to start a career in law enforcement with a department that offers a wide variety of specialized roles, including K-9 units, Metro SWAT, drone operations, and crash investigation teams.The department is highlighting a highly competitive compensation package for 2026, with starting pay for Police Officer III set at $40.28 per hour, totaling an annual salary of $83,782.40. New hires can look forward to significant growth, with the potential to reach the Police Officer I rank within three years, which carries a salary of $107,640.00. Beyond the base pay, the city provides a robust benefits package including a $1,350 annual safety forces stipend, a $1,400 uniform allowance, and comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage starting after just 30 days of service.To be eligible for the position, applicants must be U.S. citizens with a high school diploma or G.E.D. and hold a valid Ohio driver’s license. Candidates must be at least 20 years old to sit for the exam and 21 years old prior to appointment. The testing process is being handled online through the National Testing Network (NTN). Prospective officers can also earn extra credit toward their scores for having a college degree, OPOTA certification, or an honorable military discharge.
