Aurora Police Log Fraud Reports, Juvenile Calls Through Mid July

Aurora police handled a wide range of calls over the past week, according to the department's incident summary. Reports ranged from fraud and theft to mental health checks and juvenile complaints. Several calls resulted in arrests, while others were resolved without incident. Theft and Fraud Reports Fraud complaints made up a large share of the week's activity. A man reported being the victim of fraud on Devonshire Lane on July 14. Officers gathered information before the case was cleared from the station. Two more fraud reports followed within days. A resident on Cherry Ridge said a neighbor had been scammed, though no money changed hands. A woman came to the station to report being scammed out of money on Eldridge Road. A separate fraud report was filed on Robinhood Drive on July 20. Theft cases also kept officers busy. A man reported a retail theft from a store on Chillicothe Road, providing a statement and video evidence. Another resident said her wallet was taken after she left her car unlocked at an outlet center on the same road. Officers said only her passport was inside the wallet. A vandalism and theft case on Treat Road drew a larger response. Callers reported damage to a cell tower inside a storage compound. Wire was later found at a nearby recycling facility, and officers advised the business it was considered evidence. Three men were arrested on theft charges connected to the case, along with one additional arrest. Juvenile Complaints Juvenile calls were common throughout the week. Officers responded twice to Treat Road after reports of juveniles at a local quarry. Guardians were contacted both times, and the juveniles were returned home safely. Another juvenile complaint on Chadwick Drive involved a group hitting trees with a baseball bat in a resident's yard. Officers walked the juveniles home and spoke with parents before clearing the call. Mental Health Responses Officers were dispatched to Kingston Drive on July 15 after a young caller told 911 he wanted to hurt himself. Responding officers found no weapons in the home and confirmed the child was safe. His father later arranged to take him to Twinsburg. A separate mental health call on North Aurora Road involved a woman reported to be screaming and dancing in the street. She was eventually taken for an evaluation after officers monitored the situation for several hours. Other Incidents A caller on Sherwood Drive reported ongoing telephone harassment on July 13. Officers gathered information for a follow up report. An animal complaint on Orchard Avenue involved a black lab mix found without a collar or microchip. The dog was brought to the station before being turned over to animal control, and the owner was later located. A follow up investigation on South Aurora Road centered on a stolen bicycle. Officers located the suspected bike at a nearby business and arranged for the owner to meet them there. Officers made contact with a man during a field stop on North Aurora Road on July 14. That contact led to an arrest for violating a protection order or consent agreement. A protection order concern on East Boulevard prompted officers to review a letter a resident believed violated an existing order. Officers determined no violation had occurred. An ambulance was requested on North Aurora Road on July 17 after a man was struck by a car in a shop area. He was reported conscious and breathing, with leg injuries, and was transferred to medical care. A 911 hang up on East Garfield Road led officers to investigate an unfamiliar vehicle in a resident's driveway. The man involved was evaluated and taken to a hospital.
