Aurora Police Respond to Thefts, Disputes and a Marijuana Citation

Aurora police handled a mix of theft, dispute and traffic related calls during the week of Aug. 4 through Aug. 10. Officers also worked several welfare checks and responded to a domestic dispute where a resident briefly locked herself in a bathroom. Theft and Property Crimes A resident on Windward Drive reported fraud on a bank account on Aug. 5. Another resident on Arthur Trail asked to speak with an officer about a separate fraud complaint on Aug. 4. A bag of marijuana was found in a parking lot on Danner Drive on Aug. 6 and turned over to police. On Aug. 7, a resident on East Boulevard reported a bicycle stolen from a backyard. The resident's father told police he saw a woman riding a bike westbound on East Boulevard about two hours before the report was made. Police said they would check the area. A trailer parked at a residence on Sherwood Drive was broken into sometime in the two to three weeks before it was discovered on Aug. 8. The locks had been cut, and various motorcycle parts along with a nitrogen tank were taken. On Aug. 10, a resident on Colony Drive reported a stolen lawn mower. Police found evidence the mower was being sold online and attached a suspect to the case. Disputes and Neighbor Complaints Police responded to a neighbor dispute on Hawkin Lane on Aug. 6 after a caller said her children were yelled at by a neighbor while playing in their yard. No parents were present at the time. Officers spoke with both parties, and the neighbor agreed to speak with the children's parents directly in the future rather than confront them. A domestic dispute on Chelmsford Drive on Aug. 8 involved a resident who became aggressive toward his mother and a caller. The mother locked herself in a bathroom during the incident. Police confirmed no weapons were involved, and the two parties agreed to separate for the evening. A second domestic dispute was reported on Moneta Avenue on Aug. 10 after a caller said her boyfriend, who no longer lives at the residence, took her phone during an argument and left. No charges had been filed as of the report. Trespassing and Harassment Police were called to the Beljon Development on Scarlett Lane on Aug. 7 regarding a trespassing complaint involving a juvenile. Details were referred to a report due to the involvement of a minor. A separate trespassing complaint on Moneta Avenue on Aug. 7 involved a resident who told police a woman had come onto her property. The woman had left by the time officers arrived, and the case was transferred to a formal report. On Aug. 9, a caller on Moneta Avenue reported receiving threats from the same woman named in the earlier trespassing complaint. A knife was found placed in a wagon on the caller's property. Police made contact with the woman, who said no threats were made that day. The caller was advised to call police again if the woman returned to the property. Traffic Stops and Citations A traffic stop near Plum Creek Lane and Aurora Lake on Aug. 10 led to a citation after officers found the vehicle's front windshield and driver's side window were tinted beyond the legal limit. A small bag of marijuana was also confiscated for illegal transportation in a motor vehicle. Also on Aug. 10, police cited two people on Mennonite Road after a resident reported a man on a segway going door to door in dark clothing and a ball cap. Officers determined neither individual had a solicitor's permit on file with the city. Warrant Arrests Police confirmed a warrant on Aug. 8 and made an arrest near State Route 14 after coordinating with a neighboring department. The arrest occurred at a nearby restaurant, and all parties were later cleared from the station after bond was paid. A second warrant arrest took place on Aug. 10 on Aurora Road after officers confirmed an active warrant during a call for service. Mental Health and Welfare Checks Officers responded to a request for a mental health evaluation on Aug. 6 after a woman sought help at the police station lobby. She was transported for further evaluation. On Aug. 10, police handled a welfare check after a daughter attempted to remove a family member from a care facility. The situation was resolved without incident, and officers confirmed the individual was taken to the front entrance of the facility with her daughter.
