Aurora Schools Achieve Five-Star Excellence, Introduce The Essential Plan
AURORA, Ohio – The Aurora City School District continues to set a high bar for educational achievement in Northeast Ohio, as Superintendent Dr. Paul Milcetich detailed during his address at the 2026 State of the City event on Feb. 25. Highlighting the district’s "Green Standard" of excellence, Milcetich paired news of top-tier state rankings with the unveiling of The Essential Plan, a long-term strategy designed to modernize aging infrastructure and accommodate a growing student population.Achieving the Green StandardAccording to Dr. Milcetich, the Aurora City School District earned an overall five-star rating on the Ohio Report Card for the fourth consecutive year, placing it among an elite group of districts statewide. Aurora High School also secured its place as a top-ranked institution, recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the number one school in the Akron metro area for three of the last six years. Beyond academics, the district celebrated an AP Platinum school designation and significant athletic milestones, including a state runner-up finish for the boys’ soccer team.Implementing The Essential Plan for Future GrowthTo sustain these successes, the district is moving forward with The Essential Plan, a facility strategy aimed at creating viable learning spaces while remaining fiscally responsible. The plan addresses critical needs across the district, including:Construction of a new grades 1-3 elementary school on the current Craddock property.Reconfiguration of buildings to eliminate the need for modular "trailer" classrooms.Infrastructure updates at Aurora High School, including roofing, paving, and HVAC systems.Construction of a new board office and a modernized transportation facility.Ensuring Fiscal Responsibility and Community DialogueDr. Milcetich emphasized that while the state provides only 18% of the district's funding, the administration is committed to transparency and stewardship. The district plans to engage the community through in-person meetings starting in April to gather feedback on The Essential Plan before bringing a bond issue to the ballot in the fall of 2026. "The best plans are built with the community, not simply presented to it," Milcetich noted, reinforcing the district’s mantra of ensuring learners are future-ready.
