The quarry lake where a Bedford Heights teen drowned Thursday is private property currently under development by homebuilder Pulte, Aurora Fire Chief Matthew McBirney told NEOhio.News. Aurora Police and Fire Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:14 p.m. Thursday reporting that a 15 year old boy was struggling to swim to shore in the quarry lake in the 300 block of Treat Road. The first Aurora Police unit arrived three minutes later, at 4:17 p.m. Officials said the boy was with other boys at the time. Search and recovery Aurora Fire and EMS units arrived shortly after police, interviewed eyewitnesses, then entered the water and began searching for the missing teen. The Portage County Water Rescue Team was also activated, and divers began an underwater search. At 6:15 p.m., the boy was found about 10 feet underwater and 25 feet from shore. His body was recovered and transferred to the Portage County Coroner. The drowning remains under investigation by Portage County officials.
