Photos by Lisa Hovanetz A beloved stretch of Geauga Lake shoreline is welcoming visitors again. Lisa Hovanetz recently toured the new Aurora Park at Geauga Lake and shared these photos with The Aurora Pulse. Her images capture the park’s welcome sign, the Aurora Park entrance, open green lawns, a covered pavilion with picnic tables, a ping pong table and self-serve kayak and paddleboard rental lockers along the paved walkway. From Amusement Park to Public Park The city celebrated the first phase of the park with a grand opening from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1100 Squires Road on Sunday, Oct. 25. Phase one features a new welcome plaza, landscaped lawns and a renovated Sunset Pier overlooking the water. Aurora bought Geauga Lake and 48 surrounding acres for $5.3 million in December 2024, then broke ground in October 2025. The site had been quiet for years. Development here marks the first major work on the property since Wildwater Kingdom closed in 2016. More Phases to Come Today’s park is just the start. The project is planned in multiple phases, so the current opening covers only part of the future park. City officials have also talked about adding memorabilia from SeaWorld Ohio and Geauga Lake to honor the property’s history. Scroll through Lisa’s photos to see what the first phase looks like.
