RAVENNA, Ohio – The Portage Foundation will host a CORE Workshop on May 12, 2026, focused on financial storytelling and fundraising strategies to help local nonprofit professionals enhance their community impact. This interactive session provides organizations with practical tools to transform IRS Form 990 data into compelling narratives that resonate with donors and stakeholders. Understanding Financial Storytelling for Nonprofits The first half of the workshop, titled "From Data to Impact: Financial Storytelling," addresses how organizations can use technical financial documents to build trust. Led by Steve Luc and Kendra Myers of Meaden & Moore, this hands-on session guides participants through the process of auditing their own IRS Form 990 to find the "story" hidden in the numbers. By focusing on financial storytelling, nonprofits in Northeast Ohio can better communicate how every dollar contributed directly supports their mission and operational goals. Expert Perspectives on Fundraising Strategies Beyond the data, the workshop features a Fundraising Insights Panel designed to offer real-world advice from veteran development leaders. Panelists include Andra Polasky of Leadership Portage County and Scott McKinney of the Kent State University Foundation. These experts will discuss modern fundraising trends and answer specific questions regarding donor retention and resource development. The Portage Foundation, established in 1997, continues to facilitate these educational opportunities to strengthen the philanthropic infrastructure of the region. How to Attend the CORE Workshop in Ravenna The event is scheduled for May 12, 2026, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Portage County Health District located at 999 East Main Street. To ensure accessibility for all community groups, the foundation offers registration on a pay-what-you-can basis. Janice Simmons-Mortimer, the Executive Director of the Portage Foundation, emphasizes that these sessions are vital for helping organizations uncover the powerful stories already existing within their data to inspire long-term support.
