“WILL Power” Workshop to Explore Estate Planning at Every Stage of Life
What happens when life changes? Does your Will change with it? The Portage Foundation and Aurora Schools Foundation are teaming up to help community members answer those questions during WILL Power: Estate Planning for Real Life on August 31 at 7 p.m. at the Kohanski Conference Center in Aurora. Led by Meredith Simmons, estate planning attorney with Simmons Law Office, the free workshop will take a practical look at why having a Will matters at different stages of life. Simmons will begin by explaining what a Will can – and cannot – do and addressing common misconceptions about Wills. She will then explore estate-planning considerations for a variety of life circumstances, including young single adults, couples without children, blended families, older couples with adult children, unmarried long-term couples, and individuals who are divorced or widowed. “Estate planning isn’t just something to think about when you’re older or when you have significant assets,” said Janice Simmons-Mortimer, executive director of the Portage Foundation. “Our lives and families take many different forms, and this workshop will help people understand how a Will can fit into their own unique circumstances.” Attendees will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and participate in the discussion. WILL Power: Estate Planning for Real Life is free and open to the public, but registration is required at portagefoundation.org/events or by calling Heidi at (330) 470-8950 ext. 803.
